Independent Norwegian scouting project SkyrScout has highlighted Umar Talantbekov, the 18-year-old Abdysh-Ata striker and Kyrgyzstan youth international, as a player worth watching. Its analysts believe his pace and movement could eventually appeal to Scandinavian clubs, although they advise him to focus on regular first-team football for now.

Talantbekov was discussed in an episode of the Scout of This World podcast, “Beast from the East”. Scout Pilgrim, the project’s lead scout, included the forward among a group of promising players who still have important steps to take in their development.
Scout Pilgrim described Talantbekov as an exceptionally quick, mobile attacker who can play through the middle or out wide. He particularly praised the teenager’s acceleration, ability to run in behind defenders and tireless work off the ball.
“He is constantly on the move and is particularly dangerous when he gets behind the defence. He presses well high up the pitch and can score with either foot or his head. He is a major talent, although still a work in progress,” was how the analyst assessed the Kyrgyz forward.
Project founder Bon Scout agreed but placed even greater emphasis on his speed: “I wouldn’t say he’s just fairly quick. He’s quick.” The Norwegian added that Talantbekov is not an outstanding technician, but he understands his strengths and uses them effectively.
The scouts also identified areas where the young striker must improve. Talantbekov needs to become stronger in physical duels, sharpen his first touch under pressure and time his runs better to avoid being caught offside so often. SkyrScout cautioned against assuming that he will necessarily reach a high level in European football, but believes his potential warrants continued attention.
The Norwegians also recalled Talantbekov’s performances at the 2025 Central Asian Football Association (CAFA) U20 Championship. Then just 16, he scored three goals, finished as the tournament’s top scorer and helped Kyrgyzstan reach the final, where they lost to Iran.
Talantbekov came through Abdysh-Ata’s academy. He spent 2025 gaining senior experience with Ilbirs before returning to the Kant-based club ahead of the 2026 season. In the current Kyrgyz league campaign, the 18-year-old has made 17 appearances, scoring five goals and providing one assist.
Meanwhile, his club is enduring one of its toughest seasons in recent years. After 29 rounds, Abdysh-Ata sit 15th in the 16-team Jogorku Liga with 21 points and remain in the relegation zone. They are three points behind 14th-placed Asiagol, whom they host in Kant in the final round on 7 November. Even victory may not be enough to save Abdysh-Ata, given their rival’s substantially better goal difference.
The SkyrScout analysts believe Talantbekov’s pace, work rate and willingness to attack space could eventually make him an attractive prospect for Scandinavian clubs. For now, however, they argue that playing regularly at senior level is more valuable than rushing into a move abroad.
