Basaksehir turn to Eldor Shomurodov ahead of tough Besiktas test

Eldor Shomurodov has been labelled Basaksehir’s main weapon ahead of their trip to Besiktas after scoring seven goals in eight league games.

Eldor Shomurodov has scored seven goals in eight Super Lig appearances for Basaksehir this season.
Eldor Shomurodov has scored seven goals in eight Super Lig appearances for Basaksehir this season.

The Uzbekistan striker has scored seven of Basaksehir’s 12 Super Lig goals this season and also provided one assist.

His tally leaves him among the leading scorers in Turkey, continuing the form that saw him finish as the league’s joint top scorer last season.

Turkish outlet Fotomaç highlighted Shomurodov as a key threat ahead of the Besiktas game.

Basaksehir head coach Nuri Sahin has also placed his faith in the 31-year-old.

“Shomurodov is in excellent form this season and is helping us a lot.

“We are also relying heavily on the Uzbek star in the match against Besiktas.”

Six of Shomurodov’s seven league goals this season have come at home. His only away goal was scored against Trabzonspor.

There is also an unusual record to overcome against Turkey’s traditional big three.

Shomurodov has faced Besiktas, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce eight times in competitive matches for Basaksehir, scoring three goals.

However, Basaksehir have not won any of those games, losing seven and drawing one.

Shomurodov has scored once against Besiktas and twice against Galatasaray, but is yet to find the net against Fenerbahse. Basaksehir lost all three matches in which he scored.

The Uzbekistan captain has now scored 30 goals for Basaksehir across all competitions.

Last season, he struck 22 times in 34 Super Lig appearances and shared the league’s Golden Boot with Paul Onuachu.
