Former Udinese midfielder Petar Mićin has signed a contract with Uzbekistan’s Sogdiana until the end of 2027. His agent Ivan Josović believes the Serbian player can make an impact in the country comparable to that of Dragan Čeran.
“Petar is a different type of player. His main quality is his footballing ability. He is a very talented footballer whose profile and style remind me of Dragan Čeran. I believe he can prove himself in Uzbekistan in the same way Čeran did.
“He arrived only yesterday. He practically stepped off the plane, played the second half and immediately provided an assist. He signed a one-and-a-half-year contract. I am 100 percent confident that he can show his quality, prove himself and build a very good career.
“He is not a player who relies solely on running. Petar has class and genuine footballing skill. Time will show what he is capable of,” Josović told Eurasia Football.
Sogdiana announced the signing of the 27-year-old Serbian midfielder on July 16. Mićin joined the Jizzakh-based club as a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Ukrainian side Zorya Luhansk.
He made his debut later that same day in a Matchday 12 fixture against Khorezm in the Uzbekistan Super League. Mićin came on after the break in place of Dženan Zajmović and was soon involved in Sogdiana’s second goal.
Ljupčo Doriev scored in the 50th minute, with Mićin providing the assist, according to the player’s agent. Sogdiana won the match 2–0.
The comparison with Čeran carries particular weight in Uzbek football. The Serbian striker spent many years as one of Pakhtakor’s key players, won several league titles and repeatedly finished as the Uzbekistan Super League’s leading scorer. He is regarded as one of the most successful foreign players in the history of the competition.
Mićin has joined a club with a strong tradition of working with Balkan players. Sogdiana are widely considered one of the most Balkan-oriented teams in Central Asia.
Montenegrin coach Ivan Bošković prepared the team for the season, while Sogdiana are now managed by Ulugbek Bakaev, who also has considerable experience working with players from the former Yugoslavia.
The current squad includes North Macedonian forward Ljupčo Doriev, Serbian defender Filip Ivanović and Bosnia and Herzegovina international Dženan Zajmović. Montenegro international Vladimir Jovović also previously represented the club.
Doriev and Jovović established themselves among the leading foreign players in the Uzbekistan Super League during their time with Sogdiana.
Before moving to Uzbekistan, Mićin represented Vojvodina, Čukarički, Napredak, Radnički Niš, Slovak club Sereď and Zorya. He was also under contract with Udinese and made two Serie A appearances for the Italian club.
The most productive season of his career came in the 2024/25 Ukrainian Premier League campaign, when he scored nine goals in 29 appearances.
Mićin will now aim to justify his agent’s confidence and continue Sogdiana’s successful tradition of signing Balkan players.
