Belarusian club ML Vitebsk have announced the signing of Iran international defender Milad Mohammadi.
The 32-year-old joins the reigning Belarusian champions after leaving Iranian side Persepolis. According to Iranian media, he has signed an 18-month contract running until the end of 2027.
Mohammadi primarily plays as a left-back but can also operate further forward on the flank. He previously represented Akhmat Grozny, Gent, AEK Athens and Adana Demirspor in Europe.
The most successful period of his club career came at AEK. The Athens side won the Greek league and cup double in the 2022/23 season.
Mohammadi has made 78 appearances for Iran and represented his country at the 2018, 2022 and 2026 World Cups. At the latest tournament, he featured in all three group-stage matches, but Iran failed to reach the knockout rounds.
During his international career, Mohammadi has faced teams featuring stars such as Kevin De Bruyne and Mohamed Salah. He also became widely known for his unsuccessful attempt at an acrobatic throw-in during the 2018 World Cup.
ML Vitebsk won the Belarusian title in 2025, their debut season in the top flight following promotion. The club also lead the current championship, having collected 22 points from eight matches with seven wins and one draw.
Their next European opponents will be Montenegrin side Sutjeska. The first leg of the UEFA Conference League second qualifying round is scheduled for July 23.
Mohammadi’s arrival is one of the most high-profile transfers in ML Vitebsk’s history. The Belarusian champions have added a player with extensive experience in European leagues, continental competitions and international football.
