Kazakhstan Football Federation (KFF) general secretary Scott Munn has visited Almaty as part of his nationwide tour to strengthen ties with regional football organisations.
During the visit, the former Tottenham Hotspur executive met representatives from the Almaty Football Federation, the city’s Sports Department and the Almaty Region Football Federation.
Discussions focused on football development, youth projects and closer cooperation between the KFF and regional bodies.
Infrastructure was also high on the agenda. Munn toured Central Stadium, the CSKA and Dinamo stadiums, and the Almaty Football Federation Stadium to assess their current condition and future development plans.
The visit comes as Almaty prepares for a major overhaul of its sporting infrastructure. Construction work began in June on a new 45,000-seat stadium between the Kulja Highway and Talgar Highway. Engineers are currently carrying out ground testing before full construction begins.
Despite the new stadium project, Central Stadium will not be demolished. Instead, city authorities plan to modernise the historic venue while preserving its athletics facilities.
The stadium currently holds around 23,000 spectators and is expected to undergo significant upgrades to meet modern safety and comfort standards.
Regional visits have become a key part of Munn’s role since taking over as KFF general secretary. He has already travelled to Shymkent and Semey and plans to visit every region of Kazakhstan to build stronger relationships with local football organisations.
The Australian was appointed in April and officially began work on 13 July, with his contract running until 2030. Before joining the KFF, Munn served as Tottenham Hotspur’s director of football.
One of his biggest upcoming decisions will be appointing Kazakhstan’s next national team head coach. The position remains vacant, with Munn already ruling out former Russia international Oleg Shatov for the role.
