Kazakhstan international Dastan Satpayev has been included in Chelsea’s travelling squad for the club’s pre-season tour of Australia and Asia.
The 17-year-old is among 27 players selected by Xabi Alonso for the trip. Satpayev has been listed alongside Chelsea’s attacking options, including Cole Palmer, Jamie Gittens, Estevao, Joao Pedro and Liam Delap.
Chelsea will not travel at full strength. Captain Reece James, Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, Marc Cucurella, Pedro Neto and new signing Morgan Rogers are among the notable absentees. Several senior players have been granted additional time off following their involvement in the World Cup.
Their absence has opened the door for a number of young players. Seven members of Chelsea’s academy — Ted Curd, Olutayo Subuloye, Landon Emenalo, Reggie Walsh, Reggie Watson, Ryan Kavuma-McQueen and Mahdi Nicoll-Jazuli — have also been included in the squad.
Satpayev, however, already has considerable senior experience despite his age. The forward has played regularly in the Kazakhstan Premier League, featured in European competition and established himself as a member of Kazakhstan’s senior national team.
He has reportedly already made his unofficial Chelsea debut, featuring in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Crawley Town. Alonso’s side won the match 3–1.
Chelsea will begin their tour against Western Sydney Wanderers on July 28 before facing Tottenham on August 1. The London club will then meet Juventus in Hong Kong, AC Milan in Jakarta and Malaysian champions Johor Darul Ta’zim.
Chelsea reached an agreement to sign the Kairat academy graduate in February 2025. Satpayev is expected to formally complete his move after turning 18 on August 12. Kairat allowed him to travel to London early following a request from Chelsea, giving the youngster an opportunity to spend the entire pre-season under Alonso.
Satpayev helped Kairat win the 2025 Kazakhstan Premier League title and the country’s Super Cup. He was also named the league’s best player after a breakthrough campaign.
The striker holds two major national-team records, having become both Kazakhstan’s youngest senior international and youngest goalscorer. Before leaving for London, he registered seven goals and two assists in 15 league appearances for Kairat this season.
